Jaundice Free Campaign 

Under the ‘Jaundice free campaign’ the Pradesh Muslim Samaj Kalyan Society came forward to spread social awareness on Causes and Prevention of Jaundice. PMSKS also distributed about six thousand pamphlets & chlorine tablets by going door to door in May 2014-15.

 

The modern English word “Jaundice” is derived from the middle French word jaunisse. Jaun means “yellow” and -isse means “-ness”; hence the middle French word jaunisse, which means “yellowness”. In Hindi its called “Piliya”.

 

 

The main symptom of jaundice is a the yellowish discoloration of the white area of the eye and the skin. The main cause of jaundice is unclean water. In medical its says ‘prevention is better than cure’. So one should use clean drinking water. 

 

 

PMSKS team members visited the slum areas of Raipur city to aware people of this lethal disease. As per the new 81 deaths in 18 month due to the life threatening diseases were reported in the state during this period.

With 67 deaths, Raipur district witnessed the highest death toll due to jaundice, followed by Durg (10), Bastar (3) and Bilaspur (1).

 

 

Someone with jaundice is likely to have a yellow look to their skin and the whites of the eyes.

Many newborn babies develop jaundice, but the condition can affect people of all ages.
